‘Google mail’ or ‘Gmail‘ is a FREE email account that stores your emails on the Internet instead of your computer. Gmail allows you to access your emails from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.
Using a gmail address also helps you appear more professional online; having a “firstname.lastname@example.org” shows a stronger online competence than using hotmail, yahoo, and especially dated accounts such as “@bellsouth.net” or “@carolina.rr.com.” This can be especially helpful when job hunting or handling any online business.
Follow this guide to get started with your very own free GMAIL Account.
You will need: a computer with internet access.
Step 1: Open up your internet browser and go to the Google home page: https://google.com
Step 2: Click on “Sign In” at the top right corner of the page.
Step 3: You’ll now be in the ‘Sign in’ section. Since you don’t have a Google account yet, you need to create one. Click Create account.
Step 4: Here you will need to fill out some information about yourself to set up the account. The username that you choose will be unique to you, and will appear before the “@gmail.com”. Try to keep it simple and personal to you. Google will verify that no one else has your username before allowing you to continue. Once you have all the information filled out click “Next Step“
Step 5: Next you will see the Google “Privacy and Terms.” This details what information Google uses. Click “I agree” to continue to the next step.
Step 6: You will now be met with the “Thank you” page. Instead of clicking “Continue”, look in the top right corner for a small square made of smaller squares (pictured below) and click it. Then click the envelope icon labeled “Gmail” to continue to your inbox.
You are now in your new GMAIL inbox. This will be where all your new emails are shown. Receive emails here by giving out your new gmail address (email@example.com) when asked for your email address.
To get back to your inbox, simply go to https://gmail.com.
